WELCOME TO OUR ALLENSWORTH BLOG

Welcome to our Allensworth Blog. 100 years go by quick, so what started as a group of settlers leaving the Los Angeles area to escape the racist climate of the day, simply to live out a full life is now a piece of history that celebrates the achievement of withstanding 100 years.

The Centennial celebration features activities throughout the year and the big event (Centennial) is planned the first week of August 2008 (Founders Day). Check this Blog or our website for updated information.

7 - Need some help and insight... I am a property owner, almost 10 acres, just outside Allensworth. As a matter of fact if your standing at the Old School house, my property is right there. I am one of the many heirs that inheirted property of some of the original owners. Alfred R. Green and Senola Reeves Green were my great grandparents. I am looking for information on how Allensworth is developing or information on future plans for the area. I have not been there in years, but plan on taking my kids to one of the celebrations. Also need to know if there is a mailing list that I can get on for upcoming events in the town. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. (Comment this)

8 - I revisited Allensworth for the first time in about 16 years. At that time, a lot of buildings that are currently restored, were not even begun. Glad to see the finished work! I am curious though, about three things. First, why did the railroad move the spur from Allensworth to Alpaugh? I've never gotten a full explaination of this. Second, when I went to revisit over the Labor Day weekend of 2006, I looked for the cemetery, but didn't see one. Where is it? Last, the town seemed to be geographically quite small-smaller than I would have thought for a "town". Is what we see not the original borders of Allensworth or was it larger?
Thank you. (Comment this)

9 - JP - Thanks for visiting site/blog and posting your comments. Specifically, Allensworth, while large in acreage is very rural - so since the buildings are spaced the area appears smaller than the actual mass. Also, keep in mind the State Park area (even though large) only captures a very small piece of Allensworth. The cemetery (which is not part of the State Historic Park) is approximately 2 miles from the southern perimeter of the park (southwest). What is your e-mail address and I will send you a specific map/location.

Hope this info helps. (Comment this)

10 - Isn't there a celebration in September? I thought we had attended one several years back. I live just an hour from Allensworth and would like to visit again with our kids. Could you post the months of the various celebrations on the webpage so visitors to your website could plan accordingly? Thanks... (Comment this)
